Go Green

by NetpeachTeam 9. November 2010 23:32

As we all are aware of the “GO GREEN” calling, we would like to perform our part in spreading the word to the world. There are hundreds of ways to do something categorical for the environment. One could organize a neighborhood clean-up, using jute bags instead of plastic bags and get the society to do the same, plant a tree or better line up for a collective tree planting feat.

Several species are known to be threatened with extinction – from little-known plants and insects to charismatic birds and mammals. This is just one dimensional; many species disappear before they are even discovered. Scientists have only managed to identify about 2 million species so far. There is a huge amount we still don't know about our planet or whom we share it with.

ITS NOW TIME WE THINK & ACT GREEN

Give a leg up for the 3 R’s of environmental guardianship. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

REDUCE

The first step to reducing your jolt on the environment is reducing the amounts of resources you consume and use. Think twice before you buy or use anything. Do you really need it? By reducing your consumption you will also decrease the amount of waste you produce.

·         There are many ways to subjugate your wastes. Here are just a few briefing.

·         Use email to play down paper use.

·         Edit on screen not on paper.

·         Send and store documents like necessary papers and business proposals electronically instead of on paper.

·         Park your car in the shade. Gas evaporates from your fuel tank more quickly when you park in the sun. Parking in the shade lowers the temperature in your gas tank by up to 7 degrees, significantly reducing fuel evaporation. This will subjugate oil consumption and pollution.

REUSE

You just need to be creative to reuse things. If being creative is not your thing, here are some other ideas. How about reusing the paper before recycling it?

·         Shred it and reuse it for packing material.

·         Reuse envelopes by placing a new label over the old address.

·         Use ecologic books now available in the market, and the list goes on.

RECYCLE

Wrap presents in gift bags. Once you tear the wrapping paper off gift it ends up in the recycle bin, but gift bags can be used over and over again.

Every ton of recycled paper saves almost 400 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space and seventeen trees.

Thinking green is conjoining oneself with the world and throw back the unintended damage we cause to the nature in the daily course of our lives. Thinking green and acting green will bring in an environmental responsibility in all personage.

This is to root for cooperation and participation of all species living on this planet and sharing one common future, lining up with a keynote- “GO GREEN and SAVE THE PLANET”.

Microsoft's PowerPivot: Five Things You Need to Know

Microsoft's PowerPivot: Five Things You Need to Know

It boosts your business intelligence. Even the most robust business intelligence shops create only a small percentage of the reports an organization needs, says Rob Collie, CTO for the consulting firm Pivotstream. Microsoft’s PowerPivot lets managers execute many of the same types of queries and generate reports directly from Microsoft Office. Like a pivot table on steroids, it can pull large amounts of data into Excel from multiple sources.

It may change how you do BI. Microsoft Senior Vice President Ted Kummert sorted 100 million rows of data almost instantly before a live audience at the company’s TechEd conference. Since it runs Microsoft’s BI software on the back end, PowerPivot can do much of what a full-fledged BI application does. The best part is that it’s a free feature of Microsoft Office 2010. This means Excel power users in your organization will get to play with it, says Gartner analyst Rita Sallam.

More data is not always better. PowerPivot lets users easily create ad hoc reports to flesh out a hunch, says Andrew Brust, the CTO for Microsoft integrator Tallan. Some IT departments are wary of it as a result, says Sallam. It can allow multiple reports on the same topic to circulate at once, a problem that has already caused headaches for organizations suffering from rampant overuse use of spreadsheets. And some observers predict it will only get worse.

Good data management is a must. But PowerPivot may ease the proliferation of spreadsheets, suggests Herain Oberoi, director of product management for Microsoft’s SQL Server Business Group. Reports can be published to SharePoint, viewed by others and automatically updated as data changes. Sallam advises maintaining a repository of sanctioned data sources and metrics. If the source data has been vetted and cleaned, you can allow data mash-ups.

It won't replace the data warehouse. Once CIOs see PowerPivot’s capabilities, they may question the need for a data warehouse. But the software doesn’t have as wide a range of features as other stand-alone, self-service BI offerings such as Tibco’s Spotfire, Sallam says. And while PowerPivot can handle lots of information, it’s doubtful if it can handle the petabytes of data some warehouses manage, notes James Dixon, CTO for BI software provider Pentaho.

Advantage of DBMS:

by NetpeachTeam 23. August 2010 19:37

Advantage of DBMS:

A Database management system (DBMS) is a software package that allows users to design, create, access, maintain and view data.

1.Data redundancy can be reduced.

2.Data can be shared by a single or multiple users.

3.Data integrity can be maintained.

4.Security of data can be implemented.

5.Data can be retrieved accurately with timeliness.

For any DBMS to be a RDBMS (i.e.) Relational Database Management System it should satisfy the 12 rules of Edgar F. Codd called as Codd’s 12 rules. E.F Codd has defined what is required from a database management system in order for it to be considered relational, (i.e.) relational database management system RDBMS.
